Mhairi Black MP donates Silver Birch Tree
Thursday 08th November 2018
We were delighted today to receive the lovely donation of aSilver Birch Tree from MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire South, Mhairi Black, as part of the Queen's Commonwealth Canopy (QCC).
The tree was one of fifty thousand which are to be planted across the UK to form a network of global forest conversation initiatives to mark Her Majesty's lifetime of service to the Commonwealth.
Mhairi Black was invited to participate by Frank Field MP, who conceived the initiative. In a letter given to our Hospice during her visit, Mhairi said: "I am happy that 5 organisations in my constituency are participating and taking one of the Woodland Trust trees that have been donated to me.
"The free tree giveaway has been made possible by a partnership between the Woodland Trust, Sainsbury's and ITV. This project has been supported by these organisations who are committed to raising awareness of the importance of the UK's woods and trees, and contributing to their conservation.
"I am very happy to present this tree to St. Vincent's Hospice."
We would like to say a sincere thank you to Mhairi Black for considering St. Vincent's as one of her chosen organisations. This will grow into a beautiful feature of our Community Garden, which will benefit hundreds of people from all across Renfrewshire in the years to come.
